The Atlantic Highlands Public Library provides free public access to the Internet in keeping with its role as a source of information, intellectual development, and enrichment for the community.

Since the Internet is a worldwide computer network with a diverse user population, the Atlantic Highlands Public Library does not monitor, nor does it have control of the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content or accuracy. Parents or guardians, not the Library, nor its personnel, are responsible for monitoring their children’s use of the Internet. Because parents and guardians may feel that some information available through the Internet is not suitable for viewing by their children, parental supervision is advised. Children 16 years old or younger must have a signed permission slip on file with the AHPL for internet access use. Users are advised that because security is technically difficult to achieve, electronic communications and files might become public.

Only public domain files, and the files in which the authors have given express consent for online distribution, may be downloaded in the library by our patrons.

The Atlantic Highlands Public Library does not provide other Internet services such as newsgroups, chat, or electronic mail.

Internet resources in the library are provided to our patrons on an equal basis. Any Atlantic Highlands Public Library patron may use the Internet. Others, who are not current patrons, must show identification, showing name and current address. So that all patrons may have access to the computer, a time limit of 20 minutes per person will be enforced. If no one is waiting, a patron may use the Internet for up to an hour, for a total of one hour per day. After school, between the hours of 2:30 PM and 5 PM, only one twenty minute session will be allowed per person. In special cases, at the discretion of the library staff, a longer time period may be allowed if no other patron is waiting to use the computer. Only one person is allowed at each computer at a time, except with the permission of the library staff.

Failure to follow the rules may result in loss of computer privileges.

Users should be familiar with computers and the Internet as the staff will not be available for tutoring.

There will be a twenty-five cent ($.25) charge for each page printed.
